Wooden letter blocks that spell TRAINING

Grief changes everything when it touches a life.

Whether it comes through death, divorce, or other life transitions, loss reshapes a person’s world in ways few people are willing to admit. Or understand, which is why so many who are hurting are met with silence, awkward advice, and unhelpful, if well-meaning, words.

This is where grief training turns into more than education. It becomes a calling.

Supporting your congregation and community in times of loss and sorrow is an often-neglected or awkward part of ministry.

But it doesn’t have to be.

Without proper grief support training, even the most compassionate people can feel unsure, overwhelmed, or ineffective.

With the right training, everything changes. You and your team can confidently guide others through the chaotic and stressful aftermath of a significant loss.

Are you feeling prompted to start, or maybe strengthen, a grief ministry in your church or community? This doesn’t need to be overwhelming. With our training program, grief coaching and mentoring can become a natural outpouring of the care you already possess.

Grief Training Program

Our Journey in Grief Care program will provide you with a solid understanding of grief.

Knowing that there are many types of grief, and that there is no standard timeline or pathway everyone will follow, can be both scary and reassuring.

Who is This Grief and Loss Training For?

This program is designed for people who feel called to walk alongside others in grief, including:

  • Coaches, counselors, ministry leaders
  • Pastors
  • Support group facilitators
  • Aspiring or current grief mentors
  • Those who have experienced grief and want to help others through

You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to learn and compassion.

What You’ll Learn:

This isn’t surface-level information.

It’s practical, biblically-based, and grounded in real-world experience with personal loss. Things like:

  • Understanding the emotional and physical realities of grief
  • How to avoid the common mistakes that unintentionally harm
  • What to say (or not say) to someone grieving.
  • Supporting different types of loss and unique grief journeys
  • Creating and nurturing effective, supportive environments.

We believe bereavement care should be present and honest, not prescriptive or rushed.

There’s no formula, checklist, or neat set of stages that will apply in each situation. Which is why our training focuses on principles that can be applied in each unique situation. You won’t just learn about grief. You’ll learn how to walk with people through it.

We want to equip you to support others without losing yourself in the process.

This course will prepare you to walk beside those experiencing many kinds of grief and loss. You will be able to reassure them in their journey, and also help them recognize when a professional counselor might be more appropriate. Being able to recognize the signs of complicated grief and pointing them to more advanced grief counseling when necessary is a valuable skill.
